2019 International Workshop

The 2019 International Cyber-Physical Systems and Cyber-Resilience (CPS-CR) Workshop seeks paper submissions describing theory and applications solutions to the cyber security challenges encountered in CPS-CR that involve the critical infrastructure and resilience. CPS-CR are physical and engineered systems whose operations are monitored, coordinated, controlled and integrated by computing and communication (i.e. medical devices, manufacturing, industrial control systems, robotics and autonomous vehicles).

The nation’s critical infrastructure consists of several sectors that make daily life possible and contribute to the economy. Each of the critical infrastructures faces unique challenges. Furthermore, the rapid expansion of the use of information and communication technologies has increased operational efficiency, reliability and safety. This has created new vulnerability and threat vectors.

Cyber-resilience of cyber-physical and Internet-of-Things (IoT) systems is an emerging research area. CPS-CR will bring advances in personalized health care, emergency response, traffic flow management and electric power generation and delivery, as well as in many other areas now just being envisioned.

Cyber threats are a major concern that require strategic planning to defend against possible catastrophic impacts. Cybersecurity concerns are becoming a daily issue and are likely to grow and become more sophisticated. Analytics is the key element of leveraging cyber resilience. For example, detection must be able to identify the changing user patterns to rapidly execute complex analysis of streaming data and to perform intricate batch analytics on both structured and unstructured data. This requires a comprehensive understanding of big data paradigm and big data security analytics. Industrial Control Systems – an umbrella term that is used to address a group of automated process techniques have recently been subjected to a growing number of attacks. For example, Supervisory Control Data Acquisition (SCADA) Systems and Distributed Control Systems (DCS). Resilience Engineering is a new paradigm for complex system performance and maintenance decision-making. The initial definition of resilience is that it determines the persistence of relationships within systems and it measures the ability of these systems to persist while absorbing change of state variables, driving variables and parameters.

Submissions

Selected papers will be published in the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) and IEEE journals. Submitted papers must use the ASCE template. Papers must be clearly presented in English and must not exceed 6 pages, including figures and tables. Electronically submit papers to cybersecurity@udel.edu. Papers will be selected based on originality, relevance and clarity of presentation. Each paper will be reviewed by three program committee members and published in the workshop proceedings. There will also be a poster session during the workshop.
